An earthquake is all over Indian news and speculation. It’s certainly possible that’s that what it was. But right now it’s an earthquake.

Nice a nuclear armed country that possibly thinks mutually assured destruction might not sound like such a bad idea after all.

We will have confirmation soon. People don’t join the nuclear club to keep it secret because they want deterrence. And deterrence only works if your potential enemies know you have it.
Only country that doesn’t openly admit it is Israel. And that’s due to factors beyond deterrence. They use vague wording to camouflage it.

Iran doesn’t think that.
It’s probably something that should be talked about in editorial programs. But I wouldn’t just report it for sure until Iran confirms it with a press release. Which they will surely do in less than a week’s time if this is an actual successful nuclear test.
Persians are a lot of things. But they have never shown to be suicidal.

Iran not going to confirm it, why should they? Israel hasn’t. Also Iran wants to avoid sanctions.
The quake was in the area of they’re nuclear site, they have shut down there airspace and quake itself shown all the hallmarks of a test.
If I was a betting man…which I’m not I say that was a test.

The countries ran by the mullahs, it’s the only country in the world that’s a Shiite theocracy, who regularly threatens and attacks its neighbors as well as calls for the death of America and Israel.
Persian has nothing to do with it, its basically Jonestown with oil and now maybe a nuke. No offense to anyone here, but I don’t share their trust of the mullahs I have seen Islam in action my time on earth and I hope the news is false and they don’t have that weapon.

They’ll confirm it if it was because Iran wants deterrence. They don’t want to end up like Iraq. They want what North Korea has. A deterrent that keeps bigger stronger nations (like the US) from just running them over whenever we feel like it.
Israel keeps its program clandestine because they already have conventional levels of deterrence and they like their relationship with the US and Europe. They know if they started openly bragging about their nuclear weapons program and then playing the brinkmanship game that would complicate their relationship with western nations.

They aren’t sducidal. The mullahs value their power base. They live relatively high class lifestyles on the backs of Iranian taxpayers. A nuclear war ends all of that really fast. They aren’t stupid.
Again why would they want confirm it? You haven’t made any case for it…specially if the world think it was a test.
As for being another Iraq, American people don’t have the stomach for another major war…so we do nothing.
Iran knows this…the timing of it would be perfect since United states is preoccupied with election.

Deterrence from what? A Russian invasion? Being a nuclear power also makes them a nuclear target.

Because deterrence only works when everyone believes you have it and the means to deploy it. You don’t want them second guessing your arsenal. You want them to believe in it completely.

I’m saying they won’t start a nuclear war because that would backfire on them.
They want the deterrence. Everyone wants it. For some countries it’s easy to join NATO or ally with the US and get access to our nuclear umbrella. Iran knows they could never enter that club so they’re going about it the hard way.
From what I am reading looks like it was just an earthquake.
I get why Iran having nuclear weapons is disturbing but it’s a bit rich that other countries that already have nuclear weapons dont want Iran to have them.
