Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie tested positive for the Coronavirus this week after a trip to the UK; prompting officials nationwide to announce more school, universities, and day care closures across several provinces.

“I have some additional news to share this evening. Unfortunately, the results of Sophie’s COVID-19 test are positive. Therefore, she will be in quarantine for the time being. Her symptoms remain mild and she is taking care of herself and following the advice of our doctor,” posted Trudeau on Twitter.

Quebec’s lead Francois Legault announced the province’s decision to close all elementary, high schools, and universities across the province.

“Legault said he knows that this will be an inconvience for parents, but it has to be done to slow as much as possible the spread of COVID-19. Daycare workers will be asked to offer services to parents who must work to provide essential services, Legault said,” reports the Montreal Gazette.

“Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, said Friday that Canadians should cancel all non-essential travel outside the country,” adds the newspaper.
