I think just before puberty is the best time.

But this law goes beyond sex ed.

This just confirms that any teaching of black history is considered CRT by the right

No they aren’t…dead on in fact.

Black history should be taught in math class?

Yes…if this is the example being shared around as a way of defending what the Florida BOE did, that means it’s the “worst” example they could find of supposed “CRT” being taught. Because if there was one that was more “overt” or “worse” then THAT is the one they would have shared.

Which shows you the mindset is still “Any discussion of race” = “CRT”.

I don’t think so.

Separate issue. Teaching about the life of Maya Angelou was used by Ron DeSantis’ spokesperson as an example of CRT. It shows that those of us who believe the CRT boogeyman is being used by the right as a pretext to eliminate teaching about some of America’s less proud moments are not off base.

Why not? White history is taught in math class.

Again, in math class.

Is teaching about the life of Maya Angelou in a math class CRT?

Exactly correct. They tried to prove CRT was being taught by showing a question about Maya Angelou.

They outted themselves again and didn’t even realize it.

Take this example of a word problem (not factually correct, just illustrating)

“Babe Ruth hit the most Homeruns in MLB history in 1915. He averaged 2 HR a game. If he played 50 games, how many homeruns did he hit?”

The above apparently would not be CRT.

“Jackie Robinson hit the most Homeruns, by an African American, in MLB history in 1915. He averaged 2 HR a game. If he played 50 games, how many homeruns did he hit?”

The above would apparently be banned in Florida as CRT.

So what?

I remember in the Sunday morning comics pages there were often puzzles where you solved math or other type problems and were rewarded with some message that showed you got the puzzle correct.

To finish the puzzle you still had to show math skills or other skills.

The BOE banned this text because this example was called “CRT”. I.E. discussion about a black woman’s life = CRT. (And not some random black woman but a renowned poet…that is, the very example of someone you would want to show…a person who overcame obstacles to succeed in life. But somehow a black woman overcoming obstacles to succeed is “teaching CRT”).

And remember this is the example that was shared…so in their minds it was one of the “worst” examples they thought they could show.

So yes…they outed their agenda.

Stop trying to make me feel guilty about black players not being allowed in the MLB.

It’s just the first one that came up in a search.

I was just showing you that you could help yourself. If you cared to do that.

A lot of detractors are focusing on what is (or is not) CRT.

To me. that’s missing the point.

Whether or not someone was assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend or a relative has no bearing on a mathematics lesson. Ditto whether or not that person did pole dancing or prostitution to support her child. Take it to a history class.
Those are examples of the crap that is taking our education system off the rails.

Teachers like you.

Odd your example is very short on pimps and prostitutes.

Is it? example please.

That is why the FLORIDA BOE said they rejected these types of texts…because they violated the law “prohibiting the teaching of CRT”.

WE didn’t focus on CRT…the FLORIDA BOE did.
