DeSantis nominee who pushed preaching about Jesus to students has his confirmation blocked

Glad to see, at least on one occasion, the Florida Senate decide to actually stand up to DeSantis and reject this horrible nominee.

For the Florida Senate, with a Republican supermajority and typically a rubber stamp for DeSantis, to actually stand up to DeSantis and reject one of his nominees kind of puts an exclamation point on just how bad that nominee was.

Sorry DeSantis, Engel v Vitale is still the law of the land.

I don’t think this is worth even mentioning, much less making a thread about it, but then I don’t know everything.

Probably not for much longer

It goes to who/how Desantis will try to nominate if he becomes president. This is the kind of thing voters should know

It would be a hell of an improvement over Brandon appointees.

So…this proves the Florida legislature is not a rubber stamp for DeSantis, they just usually agree with him.

You, a Brandon voter, are going to criticize nominees?

Didn’t see anything about preaching Jesus but more of a anti-work stance.

Speir then discussed at length his concerns about “wokeness” on campus. While he does not want New College to reject all aspects of that, he wants any dogmatic elements eliminated on campus.

“These aspects should not be incorporated into a curriculum, nor supported through school sponsored programs or activities,” he wrote. “One example of a dogmatic expression of wokeness is the assertion that America and its institutions are systemically racist and must be torn down.”

He makes clear he wants the board of trustees to be perpetually involved in changes.

Of course

It seems that it’s not over. It looks like Desantis has 45 days to reappoint him, time that will presumably be spent getting the legislature in line.

Something happened to my post when you quoted it. See if you can fix it please.

That’s weird, I wonder how I did that.

Fixed.

Thanks.

I wonder how many know this Biden nominee.

President Biden’s nominee for a federal judgeship in Washington state proved unable to answer simple questions about the Constitution from Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) during her confirmation hearing.

“Tell me what Article V of the Constitution does,” Kennedy asked of Spokane County Superior Court Judge Charnelle Bjelkengren during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s proceedings Wednesday.

“Article V is not coming to mind at the moment,” Bjelkengren responded.

“How about Article II?” Kennedy pressed.

“Neither is Article II,” Bjelkengren blanked, leaving Kennedy scratching his head.

Biden nominated Bjelkengren to serve as a federal judge in the Eastern District of Washington.

LOL I should have said “know of.”

I’m sure it would be fine to preach about Wokeism or the dogma of trannyism

I would rather hear about that friend that sticks closer than a brother.

Jesus told people radical things like, “All good, son of man! Just like, sin no more, dude!”

Encouraging people to be better than themselves? That’s dangerous. We should keep a close eye on those kinds of people. Much safer to fill your child’s school with sexual lunatics and professional victim manufacturers.
