We’ve already gotten it in the county via wireless. The slowest plan is I think 6 meg’s and goes up to over a hundred.

Not too many years ago here in the rural parts of the county the best we could do was either satellite that was unreliable or dial up because of the lack of fiber optic on the old rural routs. You had to be within I think half a mile or less of a fiber optic hub to do any better and this is a big county.

Satellite is crap, latency, and you can now get up to 25M at just over a mile from a fiber hub. 5g is great technology and all, but you still have to be within 500 feet of a small cell to receive optimal bandwidth, from what I understand. But that’s gigabyte speed. Cells are fiber fed. I feel like if you’re going to go that far with it, fiber to the home would be preferable, maybe they’ll roll out with a combination of such. But in the more rural areas, we’re probably only going to get fixed wireless from the tower internet capable of 30-40meg max. It’s just too damn expensive to lay fiber to serve a couple of houses miles apart. I’m hearing good things about line of sight as well that could give unlimited distance as far as the horizon will permit and gigabyte speeds.

When I had satellite it was great as long as the sky was clear and the wind didn’t blow hard enough to rattle the dish.

With rare exception though it sure beat the hell out of dial up.

I’m getting almost 5 meg now and I’m a good ways from the tower. So far, even in bad/windy weather it’s holding up really well.

When I’m on remote now I can also use my phone as a mobile hotspot for tablets and laptops which is great.

As for Fiber, that is true IF you have fiber to your house or very near it. I don’t.

But yeah, it’s definitely a bad thing for foreigners to snatch up property with monopoly money, and price Americans out. Farmland and homes are getting scalped worse than PS5s at Christmas.

Canada has the right idea, but it doesn’t go far enough. There are plenty of domestic bad actors too.

Can’t do much about the state of the game now, so carve out federal land to start over with a Singaporean public housing model.

Pull all subsidies out of the regular housing market and just let them have fun. All resources should go into making sure the public housing is pretty good.

For farmland, non-permanent residents have no business buying it, so just blanket ban them. They can talk to the hand of national security.

Everyone likes having the regs and high costs in their own neighborhood to keep outsiders away, so it’s pointless to try and change that.

Won’t have to deal with any locals complaining about this or that on federal land. Pick isolated spots close to a U.S. route and just start breaking ground.
