The point being, we don’t know. Taxes come with responsibility. Maryland would have to provide services to DC.
Again, the point is it is not automatic. One still needs assent from MD, as has been said numerous times.
That’s the beauty of state rights and while it’s sad seeing them over time erode. I have lived in a red state and one of the most liberal states in America almost 50/50 of my life. It’s good to know they are options in case one gets tired of something the state is doing, one packs up and leave, we are still planning to.
It’s not the easiest thing to do but in this day in age of job changing it’s very common.
Sure, DC residents could leave for different jobs in a state. Doesn’t change that there are low paying jobs in DC that would need to be filled, likely by residents of DC that don’t want a long, costly commute to that low paying job so they live in DC.

Say it a thousand times. It is not true.
You think the US govt could force MD to take DC? Can you point to what section of the Constitution says this? Do you have some precedent to point to?
Small govt conservative on display here.
A somewhat relevant portion…
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 of the US Constitution states: New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

Dc statehood is unconstitutional…
Not that the damn fools in power in the socialist party give a damn…
The kook fringe left is already trying to plunge the country into anarchy courtesy of Biden’s stupidity at the border and the left’s defund the police nonsense. Might just as well add completely ignoring the Constitution along with it.
Maybe our senile president should just sign an executive order and skip all the other stupidity.
If the voting population in DC was anything other than a bunch of rabid leftists San Fran Nan and company would be lecturing us about the sanctity of the Constitution…but this is another step in the libs grand power grab so here we go.

People who want to turn the District of Columbia into a city state with two Senators are not in a position to talk about precedent.
It was taken from Maryland for the purpose of being a Federal District. If it stops being a Federal District the natural result is to revert back.
The only reason Maryland would not want it is because the Democrats who run it want there to be two new Democrat Senators.
No…you give up the District it automatically reverts.

Somewhat not relevant. At least not until if and when the Federal District becomes a state…which is hopefully never.

If they push this, it could actually become a very interesting case. There are several ways to try it and several problems with it.
Ultimately it comes down to the SCOTUS.
I believe there are Constitutional problems with what Congress has been doing for years.
Congress can force states to change their boundaries? Can you cite that power?

There are several ways they could assert authority. It boils down to what the SCOTUS will let them get away with.
I want to see a ruling on the “10 mile square” rule. DC is 68 sq mi.
How many people lived in dc 250 years ago? Now more people there than many states.
The only real reason anyone is against DC statehood is because it is like mostly black and we all know how much Rs just loves voting minorities
Seriously why would anyone care what some people hundreds of years ago thought about ■■■■ like this. They were blind to the population of today

No. Not many. Irrelevant.

What is the only real reason anyone is for creating a city-state?
Be honest.

They want those citizens to have representation in the senate.
Is having a city state unconstitutional?
