Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez openly blamed the United States ‘Electoral System’ for her difficulty in affording a Washington, DC apartment this week; saying the process “isn’t designed for working-class people to lead.”
The self-described Democratic Socialist -who is poised to become the youngest Congresswoman in US history- confirmed in a recent interview she was unable to afford an apartment in the nation’s capital until she receives her federal salary.
“There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead,” she tweeted. “This is one of them (don’t worry btw - we’re working it out!)”
“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real,” she added.
