Did the employee do what was requested of him since he was hired? A lot of people don’t know about this. Was he hired with the expectation to take a vaccine? Probably not.

Well, there is this as well. Not the same, but it could apply.

Great - and what are the rationales that an adult would have today for passing?

I wouldn’t have taken it if either A) I was younger without any underlying medical problem or B) I could get my wife and grown children to stop breaking isolation and coming around me after doing so. I can guarantee you I wouldn’t have taken it at twenty, or forty.

A 20 to 40 year old is more likely to have a kid under the age of 12, and those kids are getting sick. Because their parents aren’t getting vaccinated, the adults around them aren’t vaccinated, and they are making these little kids sick. Pediatric wards are full of COVID patients, and these kids can’t get the vaccine.

Yes. You know, the people corporations need to sell things too.

You think people are going to not buy from a company because of their employee vaccination policy?

I would think the reverse is true, that if a business (say, a diner) had a strict policy where employees and customers had to have proof of vaccination, it would lend me to favor eating there vs. somewhere where no such policy existed.

And for a few reasons. One, they take public health seriously, which means the chances there are rat droppings in my food or salmonella on my lettuce might be reduced. Two, this place deserves credit for taking a stand, which makes me want to support them. They are risking losing business and employees to do the right thing. Folks who are “anti-vax” can be quite brutal either in public or social media, some folks might want to avoid that level of scrutiny, so taking a stand shows character.

I can’t speak to drug testing as not my department. However we require TB testing/screening as part of the pre-hire employment process. And yes it is on the individuals dime.
