My research is this was not from the WHO at all, in fact, in opposition to them.

U.S. health officials have acknowledged that the WHO is right to say the virus appears deadlier than the seasonal flu, even if they may disagree with the estimated mortality rate.

I heard it was WHO. They said the number of mild cases that haven’t been reported were skewing the 3.4% global rate reported yesterday.

That number is severely skewed by the Kirkland rest home deaths. Those old and somewhat sickly people are not representative of the population as a whole. The relatively small (compared to our population) number of cases nationwide also means those non-representative deaths are a larger percentage than if there were many cases. It is best to not get panicky over statistics that are clearly skewed.

The 4.3% figure was for Italy.

Okay. Nospaces had said “We are on the uptick here in the US.” so I assumed that your response to that was referring to the US.

My post still stands though. Between the relatively small number of cases in the US and the outbreak in an old folks home that resulted in most victims dying, the mortality rate in the US is not indicative of the risk to the population as a whole.

Of the 46 people swab-tested on the Grand Princess so far, 21 tested positive for the virus and one was deemed inconclusive, Pence said. The rest tested negative for the disease. Nineteen of those who tested positive were crew members.

It seems it’s highly contagious in close quarters with 19 of 21 that was test positive had it were crew members. Probably shared quarters.

Not the least bit surprising. The whole reason this outbreak became a world wide threat is China trying to hide it for economic reasons.

Ya I got it lucky moved here in 2009 when property wasn’t through the stratosphere. I know people from work that travel from north of Everett to downtown and a few from Tacoma that to me is to much. There will be a bunch of people freak out when they have to start making that insane commute again.

I’m just glad the games are not in the US this time around. That would complicate the hell out of things and the games will likely be a huge financial loss.

The only upside is that with the games not starting until July odds are pretty high the outbreak will already be over or at least almost over.

Coronavirus, they note, does spread easily, and the average infected person has infected two other people. That means the U.S. should expect the illness to gain a “foothold.” But they note travel restrictions on China (imposed by President Donald Trump over the objections of some critics) “may have helped slow the spread of the virus.”

This is key. As long as the community spread stays at such a low rate the trackers should be able to contain them quickly preventing an epidemic.
