Is abortion one of those issues that are a protected class?

No, but you’d be calling for the government to compel speech anyway because the customer’s gender IS a protected class. Even though the denial had nothing to do with the customer’s gender and had everything to do with the act of abortion.

“I’d like a cake for my inter-racial marriage.”

“I don’t make cakes for that. You are welcome to anything else. Have a nice day.”

“I’d like a cake for the anniversary to the day I tragically lost my leg.”

“I don’t make cakes for that. You are welcome to anything else. Have a nice day.”

“I’d like a cake for my birthday.”

“You’re too old. I don’t make birthday cakes for people over 70. Have a nice day.”

“cakes for people.”

Congratulations, you finally hit an actual discrimination argument.

While all people who have abortions are women. Not all women have abortions. The denial has nothing to do with her gender, but for the not protected reason of having an abortion. Maybe, in the future, we can add previous/intent abortion status to be added to the list. Those people are harassed enough as it is.

Weren’t you just arguing that refusing to bake a cake for a transition ceremony was discriminating against the customer’s sexual orientation? What’s the difference here? Or are you just a hypocrite?

It was always about “cakes for people.” The baker in my example wasn’t discriminating against “people”, he was just discriminating about birthday celebrations for the elderly. He doesn’t want to condone that type of “celebration.” Why is that not forced speech, but the other examples were?

Clearly, because he said “for people over the age of 70.” Nope. No discrimination there.

And what would be the compelled speech? Support for seniors? I’m not sure there’s a religion that considers age a sin.

The Baker in the LBGTQ issue refuses all custom orders for LBGTQ issues. The Baker in the abortion issue refuses all custom orders for abortion issues.

LBGTQ issues are covered under non-discrimination laws in Colorado.

AFAIK, abortion issues are not covered under the law.

Um no. “Issues” are not covered under the law. The people are. Try again.

Did he? Do i need to fix an edit?

I don’t know. The baker specifically said he wouldn’t make the person a Birthday Cake. The customer is free to purchase anything else he wants from the store. The baker just doesn’t want to make a custom order for something he disagrees with.

Going to backpedal now?

He can buy anything else in the store. Just not a custom order birthday cake.

Sexual orientation is.

And in that example you plainly stated you were refusing to do it because of the customer’s age, not because of what the cake will be used for. I get it that you don’t understand the difference.

And if the baker said they don’t make cakes for transgender people, you’d have a case.

No, no, no. You misunderstand me.

The baker is clearly stating they’re refusing to bake the cake because it will be used to celebrate the birthday of an elderly person.

That isn’t what you said though is it? Too late to back it up now, you’re being sued.
