College Football to feature Superleague?

College football’s issue with the Supreme Court striking down amateurism (which was a stupid decision because they didn’t understand the issue between a player working at a financial institution that is within his degree but not his sport) that should have been solved with simply adopting the Rules of Amateurism as seen in the USGA’s Rules of Golf has created a dangerous monster that will likely lead to something even more sinister than the current CFP.

Get ready for the ESPN / Nike Superleague.

The Superleague, which is already a major concept topic in many sports (see futbol and golf; UEFA punished teams that even considered joining the Superleague, and the major golf federations are working to ensure players who even join the proposed Saudi Superleague won’t be able to participate in golf’s major tournaments), is likely coming to college football, sanctioned by ESPN and Nike. This will halve the number of teams playing for college football to 32 teams chosen by the two organisations.

Here are the ideas that are likely:

  • Fifteen Game Season. Seven games against your own division and eight games against one of the other three divisions each year. Divisions alternate.
  • End of local radio and television broadcasts. Disney+ iPPV for all games.
  • Each game available on iPPV at $25, season package at $200 ($50 per month), all season all games (240 games) at $400 ($100 per month) with bonus of all Playoff Games.
  • Four team playoff (1st place team in each division but ESPN could make it eight).
  • Disney+ iPPV playoff game costs: SF $50, F $100 (if 3-rounds, $40, $65, $125)

But here is the 32 team Superleague if it’s football only.

  • ATLANTIC (ET teams): Penn State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, AND either Syracuse, Duke, or UConn, which would be if Nike wants to make it all sport.
  • CENTRAL (not on Atlantic Ocean): Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss
  • MIDWEST (West of Mississippi River, CT): Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Baylor, Arkansas, Minnesota, Houston, Colorado.
  • WEST (Pacific Coast teams): Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Arizona, Stanford, Boise State.

The key in all of this is this would be Nike and ESPN chosen teams. That’s why Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Auburn, and South Carolina (Under Armour), Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Washington, or Miami (Adidas) are not eligible.
