Yes. My area was built largely in the early seventies when aluminum was legal to use in wiring. It was also prohibited to use it in house wiring in the late seventies because the older it got the more likely it was to burn the house down. Most houses (such as mine) have been rewired with copper by now.

IIRC, most of that is due to mixing copper and aluminum. Like aluminum wiring and copper electric outlets. Or aluminum wiring connecting to copper wiring.

Had an apartment with aluminum wiring and had to watch out for that.

My guess is in 2030 we still won’t have enough,
The article did not say why 2030 is some kind of end date,
but it did forecast copper prices doubling by 2025.

Presumably that would lead to more mines being started.
