I’m not sure I follow you? Won what? I was asking a scientific question of how CO2 was responsible for the fires in CA as the report implies as well as others on the left have stated?

Sure I’ll bite.
CO2 and other greenhouse gasses cause heat to be trapped beneath the atmosphere. This leads to increased global temperatures. That in turn has led to longer heat waves and droughts in some areas such as California- leading to drier trees and brush more easily combustible by a fire.
Okay that makes sense. I also would gather since CA is such a very heavily populated state that it is more prone to this than less heavily populated states.

It kills me listening to all those complaining about climate change who are then buying their Chinese goods to save a few pennies, from a country who does’t give a rat’s ass about pollution. The hypocrisy is astounding but what I’ve found to be common these days. Carry on…
Isn’t the asteroid already here?

It’s almost as if we could have used the opportunity of our market share to place climate restrictions upon imported goods but didn’t because it was in the corporations interest not to do so.

Oh…corporations decide that? Nope…corrupt politicians do who don’t actually give a ■■■■ but pretend they do so that they can raise more money to enhance their status quo with “cap and trade”.
Jezcoe

Cap and trade is a market based political solution. One that may or may not have worked.
We won’t know because instead of coming up with their own response the “conservative” plan was to deny that it was ever a problem to begin with and claim that it is a globalist plan to subjugate the people.
All to save a few bucks.
Denial works better than actual solutions.

Go tell that to China and those who don’t check labels for made in the USA.

As stated earlier… we could have used our market share to dictate the climate impact on goods bought from China.
But we didn’t because the problem was believed by enough people to be a liberal plot to destroy America.
Now, we are the only country that is not signed onto an albeit weak but significant climate accord. Now there is Macron saying that he is pushing the EU to not accept goods that are not in accordance with that deal.
Guess who could have been leading that charge… world wide… for decades and have been shaping the world market for the future benefit of their nation?
Yep… the US of A… but we didn’t. Because a penny saved today is worth more than the Billions of dollars that people who are not even born yet will have to spend.

yeah…I know…there’s actually those in government who care about this, over lining their pockets…right? Name them?

If there was the will of the people to have actually done something… then something would have gotten done.
Instead, the strategy was to sew doubt and present a conspiracy of scientists who are out to destroy America.
This shaped the GOP as the only major political party in the world to deny the fact of climate change and the effects on the future.
All to save a buck.
Hope it was worth it for them.

Tariffs ??
I thought that was a bad thing to do.
Jezcoe

Who said anything about tariffs? I am speaking of a regulatory framework that could have been in place to curb emmisions. Like… say of the type that we put on imported food products.
But as a side note, tariffs are not necessarily all bad.
Indiscriminate tariffs on basically the entire world are.

So the US has cut their emissions for 3 straight years. Can you show any other country in the Paris Accord who has done that?
Jezcoe
37
That isn’t the point I was making now is it?
We willingly gave up a seat at the head of that table.
So now in the future, when the comes that trade restrictions may be imposed based on carbon emissions guess who doesn’t have a voice in that?
Penny wise… pound foolish.

Oh. “Regulatory framework”…
Ummm… OK.

Yes… “regulatory framework”
Happens every day with every product that you use.

And they all cost us money.
Tariff by another name.

It is exactly the point. You were trying to bash us pulling out to make money. And yet we are the only country who is cutting emissions.
