As a kid he was somewhat a folk hero…a real legend IMO.

One of my heroes as a kid. When asked how old I am, I often say “as old as the breaking of the sound barrier.”
I met him as a kid and I remember him giving all the kids a pin but my mom says that never happened which mean she lost it.
