If it had passed, would everyone trust their election processes?

Sure.

The Chilean majority would then need to see how much in taxes they’re going to pay for these ā€œfreebiesā€ and decide if that isor isn’t going to work for them.ā€ Their circus, their monkeys.

says who? its merely a document empowering a government.

It’s both in our case.

They aren’t in conflict at all.

good thing the founders didn’t think so or there’d be no bill of rights

No intelligent person wants to live under Communism. The only group that wants it are those seeking power over the people…

The ā€œuseful idiotsā€ that carry water for them are in for a very rude awakening when they find out how they have been lied to.

Yes, they are.

Our Constitution is about empowering the people and limiting the government.
That is why the Democrats hate it.

No its not. It’s done nothing but empower the elite.

I wish the democrats hated it.

The Democrats ignore the Constitution. Much of what they do goes against the intent but no one is willing to stand up and stop them.

What? Why? Or more importantly how?

They should toss this abomination out of a helicopter, for old time’s sake.

Maybe toss a few dirty nasty commies while they’re at it.

This thread is about Chile. Check your stupid little Orange Obsession at the door, for once in your deranged lives.

They wanted to raise taxes on copper mining to 80%.

Chile is the world’s largest copper producer.

Seems to me this would have caused a major spike in the price of copper.

The WHOLE WORLD should be glad this failed.

Maybe the whole world should be slapping in them in their neglectful faces too.

The constitution created under Pinochet, was heavily influenced by neoliberalism (Friedman and Co.).

Similar to the Regan revolution that has persistently harmed the middle class, all the while making the rich, dramatically richer in the USA.

Chile needs to go back, and work together to reject neoliberalism.

It seems like the people of Chile didn’t like what the constitutional assembly came up with and preferred the old constitution.

The assembly should do a better job next time.

They are going to work on a different version. Hopefully, they can find common ground.

80% of the people voted to change the constitution in 2020.

They did.

The assembly overreached. This proposed constitution was bad.

80% internal tax on one of Chile’s most important industries, the production of copper? That’s insane. It was never going to fly.
