Now if you drive directly south in Russia from Volgograd for about five hours you will arrive in Chechnya from that point on and every country south of it is were the big problems lie for gay people in a way unseen in any other society.

It is true. Have you not been paying attention to legislation and violence at LGBT rallies?
I guess if I have to choose between getting killed in Chechnya or beaten in Moscow I’m going to choose the beating by merciful Christians. It’s not just Russia, either. There’s a problem in Poland and Hungary as well.
