Yep… I have. You how you know I have… I don’t take the ethos of one of the bad guys and apply to the world at large. Giliead was a nightmare because the Commander believed that in order for some to improve others had to suffer. That belief is one of the things that allowed for them to build a theocratic and oppressive State.

Atwood wasn’t saying that this was the result of people trying to change things but it was the result of those who believed in that very particular zero sum world view.

So making things better for some meaning that it is worse for others is baked into what those guys want… not the world at large.

It is one of their many many flaws.
