There is nothing to “see”… Once they apply for asylum and pass the initial interview (about 80% pass the first interview) they will be detained in the US. Legally, there is no other option…

The entire first, lengthy, section of the 2013 bill dealt directly with border security. That’s what Republicans wanted, isn’t it? A beefed up border?

They aren’t going to pay back taxes or anything else. They will be given amnesty despite everything but maybe murder.

They had a chance to sign up for DACA, what percentage did?

What happens to the economy the day after amnesty?

Words that mean absolutely nothing. Like what?

That wasn’t the question. What are the illegals not already in the country going to do?

We’ll see.

If they’re not in the country illegally, they’re not illegals.

No idea what other people will do. But the 2013 bill provided the resources to beef up the border and deal with those that would make the attempt. That’s what Republicans wanted, right? Beefed up border security to deal with those who try?

What was I wrong about?

What does pedantic mean?

Yes, you do have an idea. We both know exactly what will happen.

Comprehensive immigration reform would include enhancing border security.

I’ve moved on, you should too.

Words that mean nothing. Like what?

pedantic

1

adj: marked by a narrow focus on or display of learning especially its trivial aspects

We’ll never know because House Republicans decided to take their ball and go home rather than participate.

Sure they do. All words have meaning. Like comprehensive immigration reform has meaning and there was legislation in 2013.

Make an accusation, have the cajones to back it up. Or don’t make it in the first place. It’s unbecoming.

One thing I don’t see in the bill is the stated peaties for being caught in the country illegally after the bill would pass. Without much harsher penalties for overstaying visas or border jumping, what’s stopping us from being back in the same position 10 or 20 years down the road? If illegals aren’t immediately deported and/or imprisoned upon being found here illegally, what’s the point of the bill? It will be futile.

Take a wild guess.

Penalties.

Are you suggesting that they will stay in Mexico while their asylum case is being heard (typically a process taking several months)? How exactly would that work?

You were wrong and you know it. So do I. No need to rub your nose in it.

I’m suggesting we’ll see.
