I am playing with the English language. Why is it despite creeping socialism and communism for over a century and its permeation of American society as a whole, we are still discussing the slippery slope? Where is this slippery slope? What’s the tipping point for this country?
No, the beginning of the end was the Dutch Disease they suffered as a result of restructuring their economy around natural resources. Nationalization (which although has a lot of overlap with socialism is not exactly the same thing) is a problem, but not the root.
Today there are millions of businesses across thousands of industries. Each of those businesses is run by competent people who are experts in their chosen field. They are responsible to their customers, their shareholders and their employees. If they fail to perform, they disappear and their place is taken by others. If an industry isn’t viable it disappears.
That’s what free market capitalism is all about.
No central authority can possibly know everything about each and every market sector, business or industry. It is a physical impossibility. Government is responsible to no one other than itself. There is no failure in government, only inefficiency and bureaucracy.
The US today is not a free market society. What is it about SEC, FCC, EPA etc… makes you believe that US Businesses operate in a free market. Unless of course there is a subjective definition of the free market? What is a free market in your opinion.
