Canceled Netflix and feel liberated

I also got rid of my sports package. Adieu! Saved enough money to auto order my kitty litter.

For me all of this was about shifting my money around and using it differently. I find it liberating.

Many years ago, I was on the Hannity Forums quite a lot. When Facebook, Twitter, Parler and Instagram came along, I think that’s when I forgot about these forums. Fun to be back again.

Good for you!

The best decision you can make is to watch less news. With the exception of pornography, I firmly believe that the news is worse for your mental health than any other form of televised entertainment.

Has watching news ever increased your level of happiness? Professional success?

The news, and the way it’s presented, just flat out makes us dumber.

Watching Office reruns and paying attention to comic timing or watching a cooking show and getting inspired are far better uses of time than the news, which nerfs critical thinking and increases anxiety.

■■■■ the news.

I watch Hulu now that they have the Xfiles and my obligatory gordon ramsay shows. The movie add-ons are pretty cool too.

I haven’t liked netflix for a while now.

Different strokes for different folks. There is no good or bad, it’s what one enjoys that’s important.

As far as pornography is concerned, it was problematic for my relationship with my ex-husband who was doing that (no internet back then - just magazines) and insisted on going to church on Sunday. Something had to give.

Funny. Today, he’s a deacon in the church. We have remained friends. We talk on the phone about politics and agree whole heartedly on everything.

Things change, and that’s ok too.

That’s nice.

“Liberated?”
Was it like getting out of a timeshare?

Never heard of it. I’ll have to look into it.

I agree and its free.

I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Disney. i get HBO for free through my mobile phone contract.

I do not care for Disney but my daughters back home in blighty use it via a VPN.

In my humble opinion HBO puts out some of the best content (exclusing Westworld Series 2).

Lovecraft Country is fantastic, Watchmen was a masterpiece but the most thought provoking show I am currently watching is Raised By Wolves.

Story centers around two androids raising the last human children. A war between the aethists and the religious Mythraic caused earth to be uninhabitable. The schism between the aethists and mythraic followers continues on the new planet.

No, it wasn’t hard at all. It’s under settings.

Thanks for the advice. Very much appreciated.

I knew about that, but that’s not why I did it.
I had exhausted my likes on Netflix.

It all worked out since I’m here now and enjoying it, so far.

Pluto has a full time Mystery Science Theater 3000 channel!

Someone put us on their “friends and family” Netflix account, so we can watch it, but except for “Cobra Kai” (which is excellent - totally surprised by how much we’re enjoying it) there’s nothing on Netflix that appeals to me. In the past, other than the fact that I don’t find the programs interesting, the ones I’ve seen look very cheap. I had been reading an interview with a British actor the other day, and he was talking about budgets and how he thought the best shows had a good ensemble, but it was a mistake to pay the actors so much that there wasn’t enough in the budget to make a good-looking production. I tend to agree. One program we’re catching up with now (went under our radar for its first few years) is the show “Endeavour” which is a prequel series to the “Inspector Morse” program of the '80s and '90s. It’s really well produced, looks expensive and polished in a way that no other program I can think of does. It makes most network and streaming shows look cut-rate.

But as for picking up another streaming service, I’m pretty much scaling back on anything that relies on a subscription model. I’d rather pay as I go.

Netflix I feel has a lot of selection but not much in quality.

I cut cable but have all 3 major streaming services, Amazon, Netflix and Hulu with no commercials.

I would rate Hulu #1 currently however that might be due to the fact that I discovered Fargo which is an amazing series.

Hulu, Amazon, Disney, Netflix, AND Time Warner cable TV over here lol. I’ve got to cut cable though. Literally the only stuff is DVR’d from Fox, local news, or HGTV. I’ve watched a little of everything but am recently enjoying the series about the English midwives on Netflix.
