Russia. They are claiming that all of the Arctic not within territorial waters of the US, Canada and Greenland (Denmark) belongs to them.
They do have a habit of catching what Soviet generals used to call the 9 gram pension.
For those who don’t know, 9 grams is roughly the weight of a Tokarev bullet. So that’s what it implies.
A 7.62 Tokarev bullet is around 90 grains … or about 6 grams.
Ah. Wonder what round they were talking about then.
In any case it’s a crazy description. Maybe a Makarov?
Although that doesn’t really fit the timeline since the Makarov didn’t enter service until the early 50s and most of generals getting gunshots to the head was during the 30s and 40s.
No, a Makarov shoots a 95 grain bullet too. Maybe a 9 mm Lugar … bullet weights go up to 147 grain which is about 9.5 grams.
Not a single golf course. So much coastline…
Oh yeah 9mm para has a heavy ass bullet. If I remember correctly 9mm Makarov is extremely different from Para outside of having a similar base diameter. Soviets wanted a simple blow back pistol.
“We do not want that locked breech stuff comrades.”
The 9 mm Makarov was developed to replace the much less powerful .380 acp that was prevalent in eastern European police agencies, but it was never expected to replace the 9 mm Lugar.
Well that and Soviet officers had a habit of shooting themselves with Tokarevs. Issue being a single action pistol with no mechanical safety of any kind. So carrying one with the chamber loaded was a real iffy thing to do. It’s a cool looking pistol though.
Yeah, they kind of remind me of a Browning high power.
Speaking of dream guns lol…
One of my coffee buddies has one. I have been trying for years to get him to sell it to me to no avail. It’s a classic that belongs in my collection.
Exactly.
Tariffs on everything coming into the US will get her attention just like it did when Trump put them on them early in his 1st presidency.
She’s talking a big game…for now.
You can find them for sale, even the Belgian ones.
Springfield makes a high cap copy and they usually make very good pistols.
Oh, I know, but this one is close at hand and to him it’s just another gun.
Wasn’t it the last gun John Browning designed before he died? I think I read one time that either his son or his nephew finished it. It was for a French contract through the guys who became FN but then the French backed out at last second. Still, FN ended up with a fantastic pistol in the end.
I don’t know. I had a Belgian one. I shouldn’t have sold it.
Real politic is that her government doesn’t control the cartels. Much of that government is on the dole with their local cartel. The government doesn’t exercise the monopoly of violence over much of the country. Mexico had one foot in the grave of failed state status back in 1985 when we discussed it in the CI course, and if anything the drug and human trafficking trade has given the cartels even more advantage in the balance of power with the government. The cartels are moving to take government style control of every economic activity in their footprint of their territory.
I doubt the Mexican President, or her government, has the power to stop it, even if she wanted to. The fact that it would shut off massive flows, through the cross border criminal activity, along with taking massive amounts of funds to bring the government up to being able to put down the cartels. More like it pushes Mexico completely into failed state status.
They’re producing double action dual feed mag ones now.
Which to me isn’t the same gun although FN is still calling it High Power. I guess they’re hoping for the nostalgia to overpower people’s senses. Cause it’s like 1400 bucks and that’s super overpriced for a double action pistol, even one that is metal framed like these new High Powers are.
