America’s national symbol the Bald Eagle and the Canadian monetary symbol the Loon fought to the death a while back.
The Loon won.
I believe that is the actual deceased Bald Eagle.
Evidently the Bald Eagle killed one of the Loon chicks. And evidently one of the Loon parents managed to pierce the Eagle’s heart with its beak.
While it is sad to see a Bald Eagle die, it is still an incredible natural phenomena and may be the first recorded death of a Bald Eagle at the hands of a Loon.
That beak is pretty pointed. If the Loon came at the Eagle with sufficient velocity, I can definitely see it being able to pierce the Eagle, though it would have taken the most incredible bit of luck for the Loon to pull it off.
