CAN/US Trade war brewing

That is simply wrong Canadian aluminum is the cheapest which is why it makes up over 60% of the imported market.

Enjoy eating and drinking that oil while your economy collapses and people keep dreaming of a pipeline that won’t be built.

The topography makes it the riskiest place to build a pipeline in world history and the potential environmental damage from attempting same is staggering.

The Pipeline is already mapped and approved the only thing stopped it are some Natives.

Good luck with that then. When is it to be completed?

The current spot price on Russian Aluminum is a hundred dollars less.

That doesn’t include shipping it across an ocean.
If Russia is so cheap why do they make up less then 10% of the U.S Market.

Because we have chosen to do business with Canada.

We can stop that immediately.

The shipping price per ton makes very little difference when you are importing thousands of tons per shipment.

so you rather do business with the country that activity pay terrorist to kill American troops.

I should note that not even American Aluminum industry approve of this move by Trump.

Another assertion not supported by fact. The assessment of the intel community is that there is no actionable intel confirming that ever happened, it’s pure supposition.

I’d rather the Canadians realize they are not our equals, cannot compete with us, cannot defeat the US in a Trade war and Learn Their Place.

Stop dumping at below production prices in the US.

If not, they can suffer the consequences.

I don’t care if they approve.

Canada isn’t dumping anything.
America Needs to import Aluminum you don’t produce enough.

Yes the are, that’s the whole point.

We need aluminum, we don’t need your aluminum.

Canada needs to learn it’s place. It is not our equal, it doesnt’ even have the GDP of our largest states.

Canada cannot win a Trade war with the US, the have no leverage.

imports have decreased since 2017.
your simply making false statements to support a position know nothing about.

Assertions not supported by any fact.

We can get the aluminum we need without using yours.

You have zero leverage here period.

We close the border, no travel at all, and cut off all imports from Canada and your economy collapses.

Those are simply facts you cannot dispute.

You are not our equals in any way, you produce nothing we cannot get from other sources.

Our economy can move along just fine, yours falls immediately into a deep recession and if it lasts very long a total depression.

You have no leverage and no way to win this war.

You support the tariffs because they will not effect you. If you lived in a state that did more direct trade with Canada, you would have a different opinion. As one of our largest trading partners, it is not a good idea to start a trade war when you have a good portion of the country that needs trade with Canada to survive.

sigh, 88 days…

Aluminum producers are struggling along with other businesses amid the pandemic. Alcoa, the top U.S. aluminum producer, in April cut the remaining capacity at its smelter in Ferndale, Washington. The same month, Century reported its lowest quarterly sales since the third quarter of 2017, citing demand destruction caused by the health crisis and commodity prices falling at an “unprecedented” pace.

Once again…it’s the actions of China and their exposing the entire world to this Wuhan virus that precipitates this.

It’s China’s fault so let’s punish Canada.

Seems reasonable

China created the problem and Trump is attempting to save the American industry vs the Canadian one. It’s unfortunate but it is unfortunately…reasonable.

Why would you push our long time ally and permanent neighbor into the hands of foreign adversaries?

You think like Trump. Everything is about the transaction. Nothing is about long term strategy and stability.

Canada is a out neighbor forever. It’s in our best interest to have them aligned with us on all fronts.
