The city of Los Angeles plans to fight climate change and global warming by painting streets and sidewalks white, hoping the “cooler” color will help offset the effects of urban “heat islands”.

California insert here jokes aside, light color roofs etc do a good job of reflecting thermal energy, though there are now supposed to be high tech dark pigments that aren’t as bad.

Still, paint to stand up to heavy traffic will not come cheap and will likely have some very interesting chemistry to consider down the road, so to speak, as it wears away and is weathered.
