California fires...its largely about land management and environmental management

Dude. It’s ok. I am quite used to getting heat on all sides. I’m a conservative who really has nothing good to say about Trump. And then i knew I’d take heat here on this stance. But I’ve studied environmental mgmt for years. I get very frustrated with Joe Homeowner building/ buying houses where there should be no houses. These fires have probably been going on for hundreds of years. So they know these things occur almost annually. So why put homes in the hills…or places where there are fires regularly?

I agree that laws should be enacted to control future urban sprawl but a lot of these communities are extremely well established bedroom communities for the state’s agricultural regions. Uprooting them would be devastating not only for the state but the entire country. Especially if we’re going to be slapping tariffs on imported produce.

I suggest you look at the town through Google Earth and go to street level. You’ll see the type of community it is.

BTW, the town is about 70 miles from me. The smoke is so heavy, we’ve got to wear masks to go outside.

Google Earth Grass Valley, Oakhurst, Mammoth Lakes or Tahoe Donner and suggest a fire prevention strategy that isn’t already in effect and doesn’t involve moving the community or letting it burn.

Because the communities you think we should abandon are the same ones that farm workers typically live in.

My point in all of this is to say I believe that until the risks can be mitigated greatly. It is my believe that we should not throw federal aid and insurance money to simply rebuild in the same fire prone areas, flood plains, and hurricane areas. Libruls complained when it was suggested to not rebuild the 9th ward in NOLA. I believe that it should not be rebuilt…as its just gonna happen again. Then we throw money at it again. And again and again.

Good for you. See…you agree. All I’m saying is that as much as possible California…dont rebuild. The government can one time pay for the land instead of many times giving millions for fire fighting. Look…i know this is unpopular…but inlet tired of seeing the government and insurance companies pay over and over and over in the same communities. I’d say the same thing about Houston. Stop building deeper into a coastal flood plaine and stop building around a bayou. 2 to be exact. North Carolina…stop building and rebuilding on the outer banks.
