Recently released court documents show the Democrats’ push to impeach President Trump began before Robert Mueller completed his Russia-Collusion report; contradicting previous statements from multiple prominent lawmakers.
“Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee suggested in a court filing Monday that they have been carrying out an impeachment investigation of President Trump since before Robert Mueller’s report was even submitted, which appears to contradict previous statements by committee chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif,” reports Fox News.
“Nadler first claimed earlier this month that ‘formal impeachment proceedings’ were underway when he filed a petition to get secret grand jury information from the Mueller report. But Monday’s filing in a separate case looking to compel testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn suggested that it had already started on March 4 — weeks before Mueller sent his report to Attorney General Bill Barr on March 22,” adds Fox.
“On March 4, 2019, the Judiciary Committee opened an investigation into ‘threats to the rule of law,’ encompassing alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption and other abuses of power by President Trump, his associates, and members of his Administration,” the filing states.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler confirmed his office has launched “formal impeachment proceedings” against President Trump this week; adding Democrats are investigating “all the evidence” contained in the Mueller Report and beyond.
“This is formal impeachment proceedings,” Nadler told CNN. “We are investigating all the evidence, gathering the evidence. And we will [at the] conclusion of this — hopefully by the end of the year — vote to vote articles of impeachment to the House floor. Or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”
“The fact is, we are doing an investigation. We are investigating the facts, investigating the evidence,” Nadler said. “We are going into court to get witnesses all with a view toward deciding and recommending to the House whether to impeach the president.”
Nadler’s announcement comes just days after he demanded more documents related to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh -some dating back to 2001.
“Senate Democrats spent months launching false accusations in an attempt to smear Justice Kavanaugh’s reputation and block his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, and now House Democrats want to follow suit with yet another fishing expedition to tarnish his good name,” Rep. Doug Collins said.

Nadler’s request included “certain presidential records related to Kavanaugh’s service in the White House from 2001 to 2006.
“As a result of this process, the Senate Judiciary Committee received only a small fraction of Justice Kavanaugh’s White House record before voting on his nomination,” Nadler wrote.
“When are we going to move on from the smear campaigns, and begin working on real, bipartisan solutions to improve the lives of the Americans we were elected to represent?” Collins added.
