The trial of El Chapo began today with the start of jury selection. The Brooklyn Bridge was shut down in order to securely bring El Chapo from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Manhattan to the Eastern District of New York Courthouse in Brooklyn. It will be shut down again when he returns to jail this evening.

Won’t that be a ******* nightmare for New Yorkers. The Brooklyn Bridge could well be shut down twice a day, in rush hour no less, for the next four months, the expected length of this trial.

Hopefully they find a better way to do this and quick.

Man, really shows how powerful and dangerous drug lords and their armies are.

And they probably have memories of the assassination of United States District Judge John H. Wood Jr. on orders of the drug cartel.

Definitely not people to be trifled with.

Yeah. I hate those criminals.

Remember how scared ■■■■■■■■ NY’ers got when they said the Guantanamo detainees were going to tried there for 9/11.

No. I remember the midwest being very afraid about it though.

Why?..

Republican media.

oh

that’s funny

It looks now like the Brooklyn Bridge will only be shut down twice a week, rather than twice a day.

El Chapo will be held in a basement cell under the Eastern District of New York Courthouse in Brooklyn during the trial week. Each Friday evening, he will be taken back to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Manhattan, then back to the courthouse on each Monday morning.

If I lived in Brooklyn, I would avoid the Eastern District of New York courthouse at all costs, it will be bristling with Deputy United States Marshals.

Woody Harrelson’s dad killed him correct?

You are correct.

So why not hold the trial remotely, from the security of the detention center, using CCTV?

No need to inconvenience NY’rs over that piece of ■■■■■

Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure require felony defendants to be physically present in the courtroom during all stages of trial unless they waive that right. Since El Chapo has not done so, he MUST be brought to court for trial.
