Possible the Russians were not willing to trade for him.
Possibly because, just spitballing here…he isn’t in a “protected class”, wasn’t as well publicized when arrested, etc.
What Putin got was an arms dealer (that he possibly needs) and he got that for a SINGLE individual, it does make sense though. I seem to remember trading 5 for 1 deserter by Biden’s old boss.

Griners arrest for bringing a controlled substance into Russia, ■■■■■■■dumbass, trial and sentencing was a humiliation show. The deal for a convicted arms merchant and terrorist benefits the Russians. Guess who will be back in the game? Hint, it won’t be Griner, she will be on the talk show and book circuit to make a living.
Meanwhile a US Marine remains in prison, has no doubt been tortured for what information he can divulge and the Russians will continue to drag their feet as their way of showing some twisted superiority holding a US military member. His family has said he is in bad health. If he perished in Russian custody it will be tragic and no one will assume responsibility.
J’Biden is notorious for being part of meticulous prisoner swaps. He was VP when the deserter Bowe Berghdahl was exchanged for about a half dozen Taliban “senior leaders” who returned to the battlefield to kill more US personnel.
Berghdahl? Did he even serve time in the stockade.
Bet the US Army soldiers injured or worse while trying to find his arse wanted to buy him a beer when he was released.

I personally think the 1:1 trade was not a good deal, but on the other hand, I am glad to get anybody we can out of that barbaric penal system.
Trump was right about one thing our leaders trade deals suck. This is up there with the Bergdahl deal.

Viktor is a military asset of the Russian Federation. We should have traded him for a military asset of the United States.

Fair enough- however the amount of pressure that would have been applied to get a male NBA star out would have been astronomical. A Curry or James wouldnt be there for a few days let alone almost a year.
