I don’t understand why we never developed our own rare earth mines.

Oh yeah…strict environmental regulations.

Well it’s 2 to 1; while that is a winning record it’s hardly impressive. And he’s gonna drag the party down with him

caused they’d be bankrupt competing and the taxpayer would be on the hook for cleaning in up ie Superfund: many such cases.

Ooh this is gonna be a fun roller coaster ride.

So no big deal?

Has the man ever read a history book? Large export controls are “absolutely unheard of in international trade”? Does he not read his own policies?

It’s a good thing he’s got Witkoff working in Israel. If that can be pulled off he’ll have one hat to hang.

True
And . . . mines are long-term investments.
No rational business person knows, right now what things will “look like” in 10-30 years.

Well . . . something like that yeah.
President Trump does not inspire a lot of confidence in me.

Even when he doesn’t “chicken out” he’s known to simply change his mind.

i love the “extreme” approach to diplomacy. he knows these leaders are used to US politics as usual and it rattles them. and i believe he’s doing it fir the right reasons.

i cant wait to see what happens.

Well if he ever calls me for advice I’d suggest he begin by understanding the following:

Total U.S. rare earth imports from China: ~1,800–1,900 tons/year

  • EV-related usage: ~1,300 tons/year (≈70%)
  • Wind solar and Catalytic converters: ~500–600 tons/year (≈30%)
  • Teensy amount for defense and ceramics and other uses

The green agenda is the “Be dependant on China” agenda.

I just re-checked my above post with Grok and Copilot.

they did not laugh . . . but took issue with me using the word “teensy.”

Currently if you ask the same AI teh same (complex reesearch-type) question twice in a row, you will often get a different answer each time.

Each time they will swear “this is the one and only correct answer”

Neither time will they write “Accordng to _____ this is the answer.”

(Which is why I sometimes refer to them as “Wikipedia.”
There is no intelligence to them. They regurgitate web pages as if they are trustworthy beyond doubt. No need to cite a source. No need to write “According to. . .”)

The alst time Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on China it alsted about 6 weeks. Although China did agree to something at the time Robin Brooks (a liberal but very honest economist) says it was Trump backing down due to market pressure. (TACO)

rare earths can be extracted from fracking runoff. 2 great things that go good together!
