Former Senator Jon Kyl will return to the United States Congress as John McCain’s successor reports CNBC, with Governor Doug Ducey scheduling a press conference for 1pm Tuesday to officially announce the replacement.
“Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has picked former Sen. Jon Kyl to replace the late Sen. John McCain, according to the Arizona Republic and McCain’s widow Cindy,” writes CNBC.
“It’s a great tribute to John that [Kyl] is prepared to go back into public service to help the state of Arizona,” added McCain’s wife.
Kyl served alongside Sen. McCain for 18 years in the Senate before retiring in 2013.
Insiders close with the Governor’s office say Kyl has agreed to stay in the post “at least through the end of the year.”
