It’s too late to get philosophical. Every dime we spend now is imaginary money due to the huge deficit spending over this last year.

Trump had that same congress and added over a trillion to the deficit while Obama lowered it.

If you think Obama didn’t suck on the national debt, you may. I have yet to see a politician in my lifetime who did not suck regarding the debt. Your standards are quite low if you are happy with any of them.

National debt is irrelevant, the deficit is what matters. A 1 trillion dollar deficit reduction is amazing, if Trump could have done even a fraction of what Obama did we would be paying off the debt. Until the deficit is addressed debt doesn’t matter and is a distraction to confuse the uniformed.

Obviously we are look at our ■■■■■■■ deficit. Trump threw us back down a hole Obama spent 8 years working us out off.

The “Obama raised debt” con talking point is a manipulation of the numbers designed to target the uniformed/ignorant masses who do not even have the smallest understanding of economics.

Do you understand how the deficit works? Obama entered office with 1.5 trillion deficit, he was able to lower it by like 1 trillion. Obama’s actions are responsible for lowering the debt by 6 trillion compared to where it would have been otherwise.

Trump on the other hand inherited a deficit that was decreasing by an average of like 150 billion a year under Obama’s leadership and turned it into a deficit that was grew by trillions.

This is not a comparison you ever want to make because it makes con policy look absolutely retarded to anyone who bothers looking into it.

Don’t take this as a defense of Rs when they have complete power, they spend when they have control too.

But:
Obama did none of the things you are crediting him with. The republican led congress did those things and forced him to comply.

Trump had that same congress and added over a trillion to the deficit while Obama lowered it.

Curious what the talking point for this is. I really can’t understand the logic in giving cons credit for the deficit reduction under Obama when once a con got in they blew it up to crazy new heights. If they were responsible for it why did all the gains vanish once Obama was out

It’s simple. Rs only fight spending when they are the opposition. Give them all three branches and they are just as bad, but just spend on different things.

My critique of your post was in giving Obama credit for it. He wanted to spend more, and the govt had to shut down several times to make him agree to less spending.

In general it’s the House that sets spending. Both parties are horrible at it, and the only time Rs are good at reigning in spending is if it’s a Dem in the White House.

Didn’t Dems reduce the deficit while they controlled gov? I’ll have to double-check

It is in some parts of the country, but not everywhere. I worked in highway construction for a decade and highway design and contracting for 15 years. I never saw any cronyism or or bid rigging or corruption except for one gypo sub-contractor who tried to short his crew on wages. He was promptly shown the highway (no pun) by the Prime Contractor and blacklisted.

Highway taxes have been around forever…this isn’t new.

Changing from gas to miles driven is a way to grab EV drivers who don’t use gas.

Besides your question is a non sequitur. Infrastructure has to be paid for. You either pay for it via a tax or via a toll.

At least with taxes you aren’t paying foreign companies to double dip.

So I ask…do you prefer the double dip of foreign companies where you get taxed AND tolled (the plan Trump preferred), or just taxes?

Except when they go to miles driven, the gas taxes aren’t going away. So if you have a gas vehicle, you’ll get hammered twice. ■■■■ that.

Are they even taking that into consideration? I’m guessing those who were paying less in gas taxes because they were buying less gas are going to be paying a lot more based on miles driven. Conversely, people driving gas guzzlers will end up paying a lot less.

A mileage tax is a horrible idea. Do they not consider the unintentional consequences? When it comes to taxes and just money in general, people change their behavior. You’d probably see a spike in carpooling. You’d also see a dive in travelling. How’s that for the economy?
