We have two wind farms an hour south of my home, and I have never seen them not working because of the cold. I have been through their in ice storms, snow storms, and extreme cold temps…I mean negative temps not wind chills. I remember one morning going through their and it was minus 10 degrees. They were spinning away.

I have to ask, how did snow and cold stop the electricity in Texas? How were the turbines broken or disabled by the weather?

I am sure that a complete report will be made soon. The renewable sources failed because they were not winterized. The windmills were not equipped with the type of blades that shred off ice. These were options that the State had when they were purchased and turned down. The natural gas burning plants were partially shut down because of lack of winterizing which stalled the gas flow to the generators. And there were many sub-stations which had transformers and switching systems that were not winterized and could not stand up to prolonged cold.
The big mistake that people are making is that Texas has the same equipment that cold states up north or in the east have. And that is false. Ten years ago after Texas had a major ice storm the federal government did a survey and wrote a 300 page report. And that report clearly stated that if Texas did not take steps to winterize certain systems they might fail under cold conditions. And it sure seems that they were correct.

There is no data. The article links to the Cascend twitter page. There hasn’t been a new tweet since 10/29/2020 (almost 4 months) so there is nothing to back the graphs there. If you go to Cascend’s actual website, their example research and media pages have nothing newer than 2019.

My guess is someone found an old data research company and just put their name on a graph thinking people would believe it’s real.

No worries. I knew what you meant. I looked to see if there was anything behind the graphs. Thinking maybe they posted some data or source info. They didn’t. Just a possibly defunct analytics company. Thought I’d share.

Here is the graph from the EIA (US Energy Information Administration) giving energy generation by source over the same time period as the OP. If they’re not a reliable source, I don’t know who is.

Wind power never gets above 10 MW. Natural gas ranges between 35-40 leading up to the blackout.

It’s a crappy graph, but it shows wind as suppling near 50% of the overall power and natural gas supplying a fraction of that leading up to the blackout. It was never close to that.

It looks like cascend is made up and the graph is made up as well. Just outright fake.

There doesn’t seem to be a company called a Cascend Strategy in existence. There’s a Cascend Securities, a one man shop in New York that uses that logo.it looks like this online bucket shop is the one pushing this:

Probably for the best you kept yourself
from having to endure a boring 4 season T.V. show about Russia. The first two seasons was about Russian collusion then season three heated up with Russian then Ukraine collusion and impeachment a little better. Fourth season ended with coronavirus and again another impeachment.
