Shouldn’t the treasure from the public cofers be used for the public good?

What benefit does the public receive from financing Tiffany’s degree?

You don’t see the public benefit from relieving people from crushing debt that they cannot even discharge via bankruptcy?

Ok…

Absolutely some are. And absolutely some aren’t. And some might have been “worthy” and have proven to be bad investments.

We finance it already- through low cost loans and grants.

Absolutely not and especially not with debt they incurred voluntarily to profit as individuals.

Then why the “forgiving”?

Because those subsidies are not enough to reduce the crushing student debt.

1.75 trillion and counting.

But if you don’t go to college its hard to get a good paying job. So you must go to college and take on immense debt.

Trap.

Which is Tiffany’s problem, not mine.

You are throwing good money after bad.

The truth of the matter is people demanded the central government get involved. It did. And now it is worse. And now people are demanding a central government fix. “This time we’ll get it right!” sounds very familiar to me.

There was never a federal solution. Ever.

If one cannot afford to go to college without incurring “crushing debt”… one does not go to college. One goes to work.

 No it isn’t.

Default and leave your creditors hanging. Very Trumpy.

Central government involvement created this problem. Prove me wrong.

Cant. They will extract money from your paycheck and even your social security payment.

What do you think Brandon’s forgiveness is?

They who?

Complex. Central government subsidizes education and has never put effective controls on those subsidies in the form of demanding outcomes from colleges/universities.

At the same time, subsidizing education has helped America prosper. The GI Bill is an example that allowed millions of returning veterans to get college education was instrumental in helping America thrive after world war II.

I know nothing about Pell. If there were a thread on it, I might be interested.

If oil companies aren’t paying enough for leases I would be interested. They should. Start a thread and show your evidence.

If we threw away a billion dollars of the peoples money, it is hypocritical to care about throwing away a hundred billion of the peoples money.

Absolutely there’s a public benefit to not having a sizable chunk of the population under crushing debt they can’t even discharge via bankruptcy.

Can’t help you if you can’t figure it out.
