In Biden’s defense, I really don’t see it as intended to be a racist statement. He said it as a joke. People in the crowd laughed.
In another era (not too long ago), this would have been a non-issue. But in today’s societal pastime of getting offended, it’s sure to raise hackles.
I would just expect Biden to have a better filter in this day and age – and the need for that filter is, in part, of his making. He and his tribe have created a culture of offense.
And now he’s tangled in his own web.

The longer video is just as uncomfortable.

I would mostly agree. But I’m not that much younger than Biden (sob) but I have caught on that calling a (presumably) black person in public a boy is going to be noticed. Why wouldn’t someone who has been in politics his whole life not get this? What else doesn’t he get?

I agree with you. I don’t see it as a big deal, just a very old man who uses the terms he grew up with.
People have way too much time on their hands if they can find something like this offensive.
Edit to add: Biden has said some racist and unacceptable things that are not gaffes. For those, there is no excuse.
It is a huge deal. It was a tactic used during Jim Crow to dehumanize and justify.
One of the first battle cries of the CRM was “I am a MAN!”

Back in 2019, Biden bragged about his close relationships with segregationists in the 1970s. But everything is cool since they were all Democrats.

No one says a thing about President Biden and The First Lady not even acknowledging their own grandchild. They can hate the mom all they want, but that’s an innocent child and has been proven to be their grandchild.
I can not imagine my grandchild growing up knowing who their grandparents are and them shunning them , let alone publicly. That is unforgivable.
