New financial records released this week show former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden earned more than $15 million since leaving the White House back in 2016.
According to reports, the majority of the income was made through speaking fees, book deals, and other work.
“Since leaving office, both Bidens have worked as college professors. Jill Biden taught at Northern Virginia Community College and made more than $180,000 in two years, and former Vice President Joe Biden was named the Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, earning more than $775,000 in two years,” reports CBS News.
“The majority of the income comes from book deals and speaking engagements, with the Bidens earning around $9.5 million in 2017, the year after Biden left office. That year, the Bidens donated more than a million dollars to charity, according to the documents,” adds the website.
The massive income is a sharp departure from Biden’s image as a hometown her from Scranton, Pennsylvania and working-class neighborhoods in Delaware.
“Certainly, Mr. Biden is not alone: His three closest rivals in the polls, Senators Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, are all millionaires, too. The latest Democrat to enter the race, Tom Steyer, is a billionaire former hedge fund investor. And President Trump openly discusses his wealth, yet he still enjoyed support from blue-collar and union workers in 2016,” adds the New York Times.
