I didn’t claim that he was innocent. I said that he, his family’, and the US ambassador said the charges were ridiculous. The whole story is weird. It just seemed odd to assume that the notoriously corrupt Russian criminal justice system is on the level here, simply because Joe Biden’s in the White House.

You ever met a “former” Marine?

Why is this guy “former”?

I’ll agree with that. They got the uniforms right.

If he was identified simply as a “Marine” in the headline or article, it would create an ambiguity about whether he is currently serving or not. It could also create the misleading impression that Russia had arrested and jailed an active member of the US military. It would be confusing. Does “Marine veteran” work? That’s what the Marine Corps Times is calling him.

That icecream eating goofy bastard had no idea this even happened until it just did.

Once a Marine always a Marine.

Or Marine

Done, but I would point out that there is debate on that topic among well respected historians and manuals of style, which I own more than one of.

It’s a proper noun, there is no debate.

Yeah I was just thinking about that. The OP “forgot” that i suppose.

Soldier? Sailor? There certainly is debate and always will be.

Yes.
