Biden administration plans to fact-check private cell-phone messages?

Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages.

Should the government be intimidating cell-phone companies into spying on Americans and then sending warnings about private messages that violate the approved party line?

What is next?

Your cell phone service will be cut off if you tell a friend that you had a really bad reaction to a vaccination?

Okay, what is the factually correct way of stating it?

Please provide supporting information, not just bluster.

That private corporations will be on the look out for a new class of SMS spam.

That may be a starting point.

What do they consider ā€œspamā€? If you signed up to receive information or opinion by text messages, is that spam?

The SMS system is what is used for standard cell-phone messages. It also has other applications. Is it better if they flag or censor messages that come to your computer?

Please post information/links that support that assertion. Here is background on SMS:

So a thing that already happens in the world might be a starting point for something that they donā€™t do.

Makes sense.

Please point to where it says that private cell-phone messages will not be fact checked?

If we canā€™t get our disinfo via unsolicited SMS spam can we ever truly be free?

Please. Why would it say that anywhere?

And to think, people used to be concerned about the NSA spying on telecommunications.

The Politico article simply discusses fact-checking SMS messages. Perhaps they may limit the fact-checking to mass mailings, but they never say that.

It is clear the SMS applies to private cell-phone messages:

SMS ( short message service ) is a text messaging service component of most telephone, Internet, and mobile device systems. It uses standardized communication protocols that let mobile devices exchange short text messages.

Twitter and other social media automatically flag postings based on key words.
