Not so much for size or shape of a man. But style I believe there certainly are. And beards kinda fall into that though there’s some crossover.
For example I don’t think you’ll meet many conservative men that will ever wear a man bun, or John Lennon colored sunglasses. Always exceptions but in general.
For beards think of grizzly Adam’s vs the game master on hunger games. People with grizzly Adam’s type beards will lean conservative in general. Folks with the stylized artistic beards with designs will lean liberal. (In general)
I have absolutely no doubt all the toned and muscular and buffed up posters would fit exactly right in at any trump rally because that’s where perception hits the wall of reality
I appreciate your honest explanation. Yeah, I’m thinking more in the sense of hardware than software. Physique, etc. There are definitely a lot of style/grooming markers and cultural ones, even if they get jumbled and recombined.
In my experience, this arises most memorably in the context of mistaken assumptions. It’s like the time I assumed that this stereotypically gay friend of a friend at a party was a Democrat back in 2004, when we were already polarized as ■■■■■ Yikes. Then I was stuck, walking right into an ambush like an idiot.
Likewise, there’s an army vet who lives a few streets over: mid-30s, Michelin-guy physique, gleaming F-150, black tinted windows, army sticker/plate, flag with red line (he’s a fire fighter), introverted, gruff, Catholic, a little intimidating. He’s also liberal as ■■■■■ despite the cliches.
Oh definitely. Molds are made to be broken. To me it’s the difference between what is “typically true” and what IS true. Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason, the problems happen when you assume the stereotype before finding out for sure. Though we all do it.
You might get different results. If I thought this were. a worthwhile line of inquiry I would like to look at variations by political affiliation and age. Of course, the value of polling is a function of both sampling and question design.
I was wondering how much you were willing to conclude from 203 undergraduates at University of Arkansas, who probably filled out the questionnaire to get extra credit (or excused from an assignment) in a social sciences class.
