Since I had Chicken pox twice I chose to take it as well. No problems but the flu shot is not my friend.

Weird. Sorry about that.

I don’t know how you get the chicken pox twice. Weird.

Maybe you are like, I don’t know, a Martian?

Oh, by the way, there is only one word in English that is based on the Martian language. The word is ā€œgrok.ā€

Like I told my kids, if you choose a field where the work is rewarding and enjoyable, expect less pay. Ease of getting into the field, ie easier degree to get, also lowers pay. That’s part of why teachers are on the lower end of the pay spectrum.

You’re not supposed to. The first time was a very mild case so apparantly I didn’t get a strong immune challenge. Two weeks later I got a full blown case.

Clearly you cant

Naah, You just have to get enough of a case to get a strong immune reaction or you’re still vulnerable. Same with a lot of diseases.

@BigDrew it would certainly be an eyeopener if anyone took up your invitation. I am sure that if they did there would be a dramatic change in their perspective of the worth and import of teachers.

Often there is a suggestion put forward that better teachers should receive extra remunaration. My problem with that suggestion is how does one determine who are better teachers. Which is the better teacher: one who improves a student from 93% to 98% or the one who improves a student from 47% to 52%? In my opinion I would argue that the ā€œbetter teacherā€ using the metrics outlined above is the one who improved the student from 47 to 52. However, this ignores the many other elements of what makes a good teacher.

@BigDrew I would be interested on what your view is about my example. Also, perhaps you might be able to articulate a couple of general examples of what makes teaching such a rewarding experience for you and your colleagues.

How would you go about hiring the teachers required? What incentives would you provide?

I wonder what percentage of the teachers working in your area have you spoken to? Similarly, what percentage would that be of all the teachers working in schools in the USA?

That’s the bottom line as far as Bernie’s generosity with our money. The Federal Government has no business being involved in the salary of teachers. In fact, that is not even the purview of the State Governments, that is a local School District issue.

very true

but Communist bernie (capital C) thinks everything flows down from his vast professorial knowledge

put teachers and schools out on open market

i bet that will help determine which teachers perform the best

You have failed to articulate what criterion or criteria should be used to determine the best performing teachers.
