The missing 20-year-old college student found murdered this week was reportedly killed as a result of multiple “sharp force injuries,” said the state’s medical examiner’s office Thursday afternoon.
“Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday in [Mollie] Tibbetts’ death. He’s being held on a $5 million cash-only bond. During his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon, Rivera looked stoic and refused to speak when given the chance. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation special agent Rick Rahn said authorities believe this was a ‘premeditated’ attack,” writes Fox News.
Tibbetts was first reported missing on July 18th when she failed to return from jogging near Brooklyn, Iowa.
Federal authorities confirmed this week that Rivera was residing in the United States illegally.
