Seems my explanation of my opinion on this was deleted. Can’t really tell. So I’ll post it again.

I say this thread is merely anecdotal because it is just an attempt to further the good guy with a gun narrative. Tomorrow or the next day someone could post a thread with a good guy with a gun who does harm thus negating the point in th op.

It a good thing that a life was saved though so don’t go missing my point like so many like to do in this forum.

What it is, is a perfect example of how the good guy with a gun scenario actually plays out.

We have 1.5-2 million DGU’s in this country every year by citizens who are lawfully armed vs a tiny fraction of incidents comparatively in which criminals do harm with firearms.

In this case the life of at least one cop was saved and everyone but the bad guy got to go home.

That’s great but it doesn’t change the fact this this is merely anecdotal.

No, it’s a data point, it is a fact this happened and a fact that it turned out well for all except for the cop killer.

It’s only "anecdotal’ when you find the facts uncomfortable. This is a documented case not an unverified report of something that may or may not have happened.

The dispatcher who misinformed them and the driver are responsible for what happened, not the rookie who was dumped into a no win situation.

No, I’m simply going with the facts of the case and the law. Under the circumstances the shooter absolutely had a lawful use of deadly force created by the kid’s actions as reported before they got there combined with his attempted quick draw as the cop bailed out.

The dispatcher who failed to give them accurate information including the fact one of the callers had said she thought it was a kid with a fake gun, never reported that to the officers, only that someone dressed as he was, was harassing and threatening people with a handgun.

The driver then put him in a situation where he had no real choice about how to respond by dumping him within feet of where the kid was standing. The driver put him into a perfect kill box and he reacted accordingly.
