Yes, exactly. Why couldn’t we do that to the Taliban?

There were people on the ground in Yemen.

If we had people on the ground in Yemen, why couldn’t we have them in Afghanistan?

There is no way anyone could be this ■■■■■■■ stupid.

We did.

So we could have targeted Taliban members in Afghanistan the same way we targeted terrorists in other countries. Preferable to a 20-year occupation if you ask me.

You still aren’t getting this. You don’t understand what happened.

Back in the 80s, the muj fought the Soviets. We, along with a lot of other countries helped them. Then when they won, we forgot about them.

Along comes the Taliban, then 9/11 happens and we tell the muj “Help us get them.” We had already reneged once.

Promises had to be made. And kept.

That’s why the “nation building” had to be done.

You can argue 20 years was too much of a college try, I won’t argue against it. But we had to give it a shot.

I appreciate the explanation. But I don’t understand why nation-building was the only option. Why did we have to make that promise? Why did we need their help after 9/11?

How do you think we took that country with 200 guys?

Okay, but why was that the only option? You said:

Why did promises have to be made?

You have another suggestion?

To shape the operating environment to allow 200 guys to take the country. You think they did that by themselves?

Yes, I’ve been arguing it all along. Targeted strikes against Taliban members without invading and taking over the country.

I tried to let you get away with that silliness. You just keep repeating it.

We did. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of times of times, but with ground intelligence, just like they had in Yemen.

Because Biden pulled them all out. Where have you been the last couple of days?

And yet you can’t seem to explain why it’s “silliness.”

Thank you. That’s what I’ve been saying all along. We should have just kept at it rather than invading and taking over the country, in my opinion.

We’re talking about 20 years ago, not today. The Bush administration should never have invaded.

What part about having to invade the country to put eyes on the ground are you not understanding?

How else would we have known where to bomb? The two activities are joined at the hip.
