Actually, there is a big wing of the left that really thinks the biggest problem on the planet is that the human population is too large. That’s a very scary philosophy.

It’s a scary philosophy but those people also want a controlled culling of the population. A nuclear war is anything but controlled. Besides it wouldn’t solve the underlying issue in their ideology, namely humanity is bad for the planet. Since a nuclear war comes with some pretty insane climate consequences as part of the deal.
Basically most of them don’t want to kill anyone. They want us to stop having children or restricting ourselves to perhaps one child. Unfortunately they’re stupid so they don’t look at all the societal and economic damage that did to China since the 80s.

Some of the most wild climate change extremists feel like the only way to save earth as it currently exists for the long term is to artificially restrict the growth rate. Granted, these people aren’t in any kind of power structure and it frankly goes beyond politics because some right wingers are similarly minded but for different reasons.
Then you got people like Elon Musk who are on the opposite end of the spectrum. They feel like we should raise our birth rate to what it was in the 1800s. Which is flat out stupid and economically impossible for the vast majority of people. In a service based economy, children are a financial negative. They take a lot of money to raise. I’m finding that out for myself now.

The planet is way overpopulated and as medicine, technology etc continues to increase lifespans the situation will only worsen. Though I have no idea how to stop it.
The solution depends entirely on how you view humanity.
Also, the problem may fix itself over time. Birth rates worldwide are falling. Even Africa, which has the highest birth rates of all the continents, is seeing its birth rate decline in real time.
