Is a mini ice age on the way? Many astronomers believe so. Currently we are experiencing reduced solar activity. Models are predicting the beginning of Maunder minimum by the 2030’s. This is not going to be fun folks. Check out the article. It’s short and sweet.

Yeah. IFL science went from doing pretty good reporting to clickbait almost overnight.

Sad really

I followed some of their link supporting the story and it seems to based entirely on a story in the Telegraph which was subsequently updated with this correction:

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article inaccurately stated that scientists have predicted bitterly cold winters in the 2030s, “similar to freezing conditions of the late 17th century”. In fact, the research focused solely on solar activity, and did not made any prediction about its possible future climate effects. We are happy to make this clear.

IFLScience is not predicting this. They are merely reporting the predictions of others.
Do you like this source better?

Except the original research made no such predictions… This is why I track multiple source and try to find the original research rather than relying on reporters exclusively…

Solar activity will fall by 60 per cent as two waves of fluid “effectively cancel each other out”, Prof Valentina Zharkova said in a presentation to the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno.

• Fiddling with temperature data is biggest science scandal ever (31,000 comments)

“[In the cycle between 2030 and around 2040] the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the sun," she said.

"Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other.

“We predict that this will lead to the properties of a ‘Maunder minimum’”.

Thanks for chasing that down.

I chased something down for you too. According to the scientific journal, Earth Sky. The solar minimum IS coming. It looks like a consensus. The debate is over.

Then I encourage you to disregard their report and focus on this one or any of the twenty that I could provide you. Fair enough?

I found this quote interesting…

_"…a Meander Minimum would still not be enough to counter the warming effects of anthropogenic climate change."

So man-made global warming is real. And to answer your question posed in the title, yes, sources in this article seems to think we won’t cool.

It appears that most solar experts believe that global cooling is on the way. It’s almost a consensus among astro physicists. Are you open to the idea as they are that this could be bad?

The solar expert you provided earlier said this phenomenon won’t be enough to counter the warming so which expert am I supposed to believe. The one you already provided or this one?

I wouldn’t want to be ‘expert’ shopping.

You don’t have to expert shop. It’s a near consensus among solar astronomers. Is your mind open to the possibility are you a total denier?

The climate is changing, but it’s not changing the way climate change crowd predicted it would. Nature has made a mockery of global warming, so who are the real climate deniers?

Ice is not only growing in the South Pole, but in parts of the North Pole, too. And the coldest arctic temperatures in decades have descended upon North America.

That’s not true at all… The solar cycle has been know for a long time and has been used in every modern climate model…

This solar situation is real. I know that liberals do not believe that the sun has anything to do with Earth temperatures. But scientists do.

My question: Should this be considered and factored in? Or simply ignored? Should the mainstream media and our politicians acknowledge that it is possible that global cooling is in the way?

That also is not true

It is factored in… Why don’t you go read some actual research on the topic…

You’re getting yourself all worked up again. Calm down. You are dangerously close to being condescending. Lets not do that. Shall we?
