I think it is evidence of the “shy Trump supporters”. People know that they risk violent attacks if they express support for Trump.

I think it’s a concern, but you ought to be concerned about violence and intolerance in general, and not just from the side your partisanship sets you in opposition to.

That is tragic and I hope that the murderer is brought to justice

No one knows if he was killed because he supported Trump.

Again…an assumption…something you want to believe is true.

Probably also a way to comfort yourself that Trump is down 7-9 points in the polls as well…counting on that “shy Trump supporter” to bail you Trump out again.

What CloudResearch Found

  • 11.7% of Republicans say they would not report their true opinions about their preferred presidential candidate on telephone polls.
  • In contrast, just 5.4% of Democrats say they’d be reluctant to share their true voting intentions — roughly half the number of Republicans reluctant to tell the truth on phone polls.
  • 10.5% of Independents fell into the “shy voter” category, just a percentage point lower than how Republicans react to phone polls.

No fear.

As with all studies, there are several possible limitations to the conclusions one can draw from this study as well. First, we used a nonprobability sampling frame, which means the results of this study may not generalize to the whole population. This remains true despite the fact that we replicated the main findings in this report across two samples that were recruited with quotas set to match the demographics of the U.S. population (Study 1) and quotas set to match the demographics of voters within each political party (Study 2). Additionally, it is important to remember that this is self-report data, which may not perfectly align with people’s real world behavior.

Also here Nate Silver gives an excellent breakdown as to why the “Shy Trump Voter” phenomenon likley did not explain his 2016 win.

And finally you can listen to a podcast here that explains why there likely are not “secret Trump voters” this year either.

And remember, although Nate did miss Trump’s general win, he was one of the ones who gave him the highest probability OF winning.

Went to the store in Portland last week. Zero people had to take an AR to pick up bread and milk.

Try wearing a MAGA hat in downtown Portland and see how it goes for you.

Trump supporters have reason to fear if they live in a blue urban area.

Try thinking about 210,000 dead Americans from COVID and have some perspective.

People are afraid of catching COVID if they express their political opinions in yard or window signs?

You have a way better chance of getting covid than getting assaulted because you have a trump yard sign in New York.

I "live* in the Bay Area, and my observations don’t match yours at all.

I’ve even seen Trump car parades here, in what is certainly one of the most liberal sections of the country.

COVID ignores people with BLM signs. That is why only BLM gatherings are allowed in New York.

Science!

On the other hand, Orthodox Jews need to stop having funerals.

Lol I was in New York City like two weeks after 9/11 happened and no one was living in fear. One of the reasons I love that town.

nope.

I don’t see a lot of Trump signs by me in NJ. Probably because people don’t want a rock thrown through their window. But I don’t advertise that I’m a Cowboys fan, or fan of any team for similar reasons. But as far as I’m concerned, I’d be that way no matter where I lived.

As far as being afraid of being overheard? I don’t see that. Trump supporters here are loud and proud.

“Fear” has nothing to do with it.

What do you think the point of lawn signs is?

I have quite a few good friends who were at that protest in front of the Brooklyn Museum. They told me that masks were basically mandatory and that there was an infrastructure to provide for adequate social distancing and adherence to what was known to be the best practices for not spreading the virus

Sadly, the orthodox community has been the one that has been hit the hardest and has also been the one that has seen the most recent spikes. This is in part to the insistence on not adhering to the best practices to prevent the virus that we know.
