Is the word of the pope the word of the church?
Quote the canon that supports killing criminals over the word of the pope.

The current Catechism ⦠Not the end of story. The next Pope can change it just as quickly as it was changed.

Times like this when I am glad I left religion behind a long time ago.

You quote where the Canon condemns it.

I already quoted the pope explaining the stance of the church.
Trump it if you can.

The Pope expressing his opinion is not Canon Law. Heās not infallible, remember?

If you think the pope revising a catechism is him āexpressing his opinionā then you need to chat with your priest.
But hey, just cite the canon, and put this to bed.

The Canon was not changed by the changed Catechism. Thatās all you need to know,
If you take communion you see it is that you say I believe all of what the Church teaches, these teachings on abortion, homosexuality.are something that a Catholic must believe. Now, I do recommend that people look at the reasons for the Church teachings on the issues. It is Scripture plus tradition, big T Tradition, those issues are faith & morals. Catholics should not be pick & choose. Cardinal Ratzinger as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith, in 1986 wrote on this in 1986, later Pope Benedict XVI and has never been retracted by anybody. Here is the teaching on homosexuality; Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons
Love the sinner but not the sin. Courage is the Catholc ministry to those who have homosexual feelings and still keep faithful to the Bible and the Church. https://couragerc.org/

On abortion, Pope John Paul II in the encylical Evangelium Vitae discusses abortion Evangelium Vitae (25 March 1995) | John Paul II
This is what the Church teaches based on Scripure & Tradition and it will never change. Catholics are not supposed to be pick & choose, that is Protestantism based on their reading of Scripture. It is part of the same faith that says Jesus is the Son of God and God the Son, and rose from the dead. Iād recommend reading those encyclicals, but that teaching will not change. Iād recommend reading those writings before rejecting the teaching. Now, if you really are stuck on the promotion of abortion and homosexuality I recommend going to churches that accept that, Certain branches of Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans accept abortion on demand and homosexuality. But if you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ you are supposed to believe all the Church teaches, including matters of sexuality.
I actually disagree that the Pope can not be infallible, however, there are only limited circumstances where infalliblility would be used. Him just saying or writing stuff on the side, is not meant to be binding on all Catholics. there are alot of circumstances that have to go into play when infallibility is applied but that is another thread in the religion section, which this thread is not about. Pope Francis has not proclaimed anything infallibly and it is a rarity when that idea is used. The last ex cathedra proclamation was 1953 I think.

What do you think a catechism is? What is its function?
Everyone picks and chooses what to believe/adhere to from their religion. Its just human nature.
Because I was one.
I reference Catholic doctrine.

Were? Are you no longer?
Catholic doctrine specifically tells you NOT to judge others.
Yes. But it also hasa very strigent stance against abortion.
Ok. the true catholics part sounded judgemental. I agree. Mia culpa. Iām working on that.

Judge not, lest you be judged.
That is basic Christian doctrine, regardless of denomination.

Yep. As John XXIII once remarked: āI am only infallible if I speak infallibly, but I shall never do that, so I am not infallible.ā

How many times do you want to go over this? Until I change my response, or until you get tired of expecting me to change it?
