I followed AOC on Twitter for a bit because I liked how feisty she was, plus she seemed pretty good at questioning folks in her committee. I stopped following her because she is just too much of a woke millennial for my tastes. Try and achieve what is possible, not moan about not getting giant changes NOW.
Democrats are good at incremental change, that is our wheelhouse. Medicare for All is a good example. Lots support it until you have to explain how you are going to pay for it. Now, we already pay more than what it would cost, but how do you transfer all of that over? How many people are going to lose jobs in the insurance companies and where do they go? If a Union worker has nice health insurance as part of his job, does he get that monetary value back as increased salary?
Probably not!
To me, the ACA was the foundation of a national health insurance system, but it is just the foundation. Next, think about Universal Catastrophic or a public option where you can buy into Medicare, and not just private but business. If it is more competitive than what is available then we cut costs and improve access without incurring additional debt.
If enough people wind up getting on it, maybe Medicare for all becomes a reality on its own, but there is every possibility that insurance companies up their game to compete and everyone wins.
But AOC wants to just wants to jump right to Medicare for All. That is never going to happen.

If you have a business with little competition in the insurance marketplace, insurance companies have you by the short and curls. Having Medicare provide a set price nationwide or even state to state means that you will have competition in all 50 states. This is a potential boon for Red States, where there is a significant lack in competition when it comes to insurance.
I don’t see why individuals can buy into Medicare but Businesses cannot. If the Business stands to save money and provide good health insurance, they should be able to. And Medicare is pretty good health insurance. Not the greatest, but the co-pays are a LOT better than Silver Plan stuff that is out there now.
Those are just the numbers, Sneaky. We spend about 5 trillion a year now and Medicare for All comes in under 4k a year.
But getting there would create a ton of pain, and I don’t think we are nearly ready to attempt it. A transition like that would take decades to implement, if ever. We could hybridize private and public insurance much easier, I think. A lot of countries do that and still see significant cost savings.

Competing goals. You have individuals. Then you have collectives. The latter corrupts the system to meet its goals.
Healthcare is an individual issue.
I would actually support businesses not being on the line for any health care costs and having it solely be on the individual but a lot would have to change to do so, and that kind of restructuring would be as large, if not larger, than Medicare for All.
