That was a lockout, right? A perfect situation for Taft-Hartley. This is a union strike. Taft-Hartley wouldn’t work. The members would slow things to a crawl. Results would be similar to a strike, except they’d be getting paid.
Hmm.
I lived in Baltimore for 35 years and did service work at the Port of Baltimore. The dock workers who did, worked their asses off. Allways looked to me like there’s too many chiefs and not enough Indians down on the docks. But what do I know? It’s been said the ChiComs have the most efficient docks in the world and they’re automated. Maybe so, but you and I know the CHinese don’t pay labor ■■■■■
This is all smoke and mirrors to make Harris look like a hero to the American people. Just watch.
You know by now the President does have to power to stop this, and make the port workers go back to work right?
Which is exactly what he’s going to do and then wave his magic wand to broker a settlement, so Harris looks like a hero the American people just in time for the election.
If he doesn’t do that, Harris is doomed for the ash heap of history.
I propose a compromise: Compromise 1:
Allow all exports to be loaded by automation (quick, efficient safe affordable.)
Imports? Well they should be off-loaded by manned cranes, each crane crew should be changed to one man plus an assistant.
All trucks should be driven by one man plus an assistant.
Alternate:
All automation plans may proceed as the port operators wish.
