Well you OBVIOUSLY missed the point of his post. He was charged with a felony gun charge which was pled down to a misdemeanor. IF he would have been convicted of the original charge, a felony, he a) would probably still be serving his sentence amd b) be unable to legally purchase/be in possession of a firearm.
Instead he got if I heard correctly, 18 months of PROBATION, and no felony conviction.
Again, ENFORCE EXISTING LAWS!!!.

I have been following this story because I live in Newport News and the school involved is 3 miles from me.
The teacher wanted to sue the school because they had students come forward and say that the 6 year old had the gun and showed it to them. The school checked his backpack and his desk / locker, but never checked his person, nor called his parents.
The school tried to stop the lawsuit stating that her injuries are covered under workers compensation. The judge ruled last friday that the case can proceed and âdid not arise out of her employmentâ and therefore did not âfall within the exclusive provisions of workersâ compensation coverage.â He further stated âThe danger of being shot by a student is not one that is peculiar or unique to the job of a first-grade teacher."

Just another prime example proving that one should not expect fallible humans, in positions of authority, to prevent tragedy. And proof that people will rise to positions that expose their level of incompetence.
