In a press conference on Friday, superintendent of Newport News Public Schools, Dr. George Parker said “we need to keep guns out of the hands of our young people.”

I agree

Some agreed, calling on the state and federal government to enact stricter gun laws to keep firearms out of children’s hands.

Such as?

In this case, should these parents be held accountable for the actions of their 6 year old child? If the child is too young not to be culpable, then IMO…the parents are. How did this child get access to this gun? Who left it out and is that person responsible…or at least complicit?

All good questions. “Stricter gun laws” - I’m pretty sure it’s already against the law to let your 6 year-old take a gun to school and shoot his teacher.

I could be wrong though.

I read this one too. How the ■■■■ did this six year old get the ■■■■■■■ gun???

One more law should do it.

Exactly.

What we have here is a case of negligence on the part of the owner of the weapon. I don’t know of any state where a 6 year old can be criminally charged.

What the hell kind of home is a 6 year old child living in where he can premeditate and carry out an attempt at murder?

Parents are at fault here. I worry about my grandson because his dad has a handgun and does not seem to very diligent about keeping it safe. Been to the house and its on a side table or kitchen table.

A spokeswoman for Youngkin, Macaulay Porter, said Saturday that the governor plans to discuss with lawmakers enhanced penalties for crimes committed with guns.

Yes. Teach that six year old a lesson.

Perhaps. Do we know yet where the gun came from? Could the kid have found it in the bushes where some fleeing perp tossed it?

Probably found it under a park bench and was pointing it at a shark that scared him.

If that happened I will apologize to the parents.

Why not hold your condemnation until you know? Then no apology is needed.

Well if we were all to hold all our opinions it would become a boring message board.

I doubt he found the gun but I suppose anything is possible.

What a surprise. It was not found in the bushes thrown there by a fleeing perp.

I said “condemnation” not opinion.

But now we know, rather than just presume.
